KEITH'S PROFILE
Keith started handling dogs professionally in 1990 as an R.A.F Police dog handler. As his career progressed he began instructing other handlers and their dogs in obedience, agility and protection work. He competed in a variety of police dog trials both at unit and at area level going on to compete in the R.A.F Police dog UK national trials 2002. He was also a member of the southern area R.A.F Police dog demonstration team. The team travelled throughout the south of England giving displays of obedience and agility at various public events and air shows. In the late 1990's he began to move away from the more traditional methods of dog training that were in use at the time and started experimenting with more reward based methods of training, becoming one of its most knowledgeable dog trainers in this area.
In 2001 this led him to develop an interest in canine behaviour and after studying the Amichien Bonding methods used by Jan Fennell the dog listener and compeleting her foundation course, he began working on police dogs with behaviour problems. He specialized in dealing with dogs that were aggressive towards their handlers particularly during protection work where these dogs would release the criminal and turn and attack thier handlers. Keith's calm but confident approach would eventually turn these dogs into exceptional police dogs that could then be returned to operational duties.
In 2004 he left the R.A.F police and went on to work within an animal rescue organisation. Employed within the field of canine behaviour modification he worked with a variety of different breeds of dog with a wide range of behaviour problems. Part of his duties was to give training and behaviour advice to the public and this led him to set up One To One Canine Training And Behaviour. Keith currently has one dog Alfie a Rottweiler whom he took on as a rescue dog and whom is being trained for working trials. Frank the other dog pictured on this website was retired by Keith from the R.A.F Police and spent the rest of his years as a family pet.
After you have contacted us and discussed your requirements we will make an appointment to come and visit you, whether it be during a weekday, weekend or in exceptional circumstances during the evening, (clients should note that due to the nature of our business we do not routinely work evenings unless it is a behavioural problem related specifically to evenings).
We will then come out to your own home and carryout an initial consultation and assessment of your dog, we find that by coming out to we can assess the dog far more accurately in its normal environment. After assessing the dog we will then discuss with you possible training programmes that will be suitable and how to implement them.
Initial consultation assessments usually last between 1-2 hours and we will follow up all the advice given with a written training programme, this is normally emailed to you within 2-3 days. Don't worry if you don't have an email address we can post the programme out to you.
Some clients prefer to book a follow up session their and then and we are more than happy to do this, however in most cases one session is all that is needed. If you would prefer to work on your dog behaviour over several sessions then let us know and we can discuss this with you. Exceptions to this are where there has been aggression towards people or other dogs in which case several sessions may be required, this is due to the serious nature of such problems and the view taken by the police and courts where complaints are made in regard to out of control dogs by members of the public.
After four to six weeks we will contact by telephone to see how you are getting on and discuss any further advice that is needed, in the meantime you can contact us at anytime should you have any problems or queries regarding the training of your dog.
For clients requiring basic obedience training sessions these can be arranged on a weekly or fortnightly basis with sessions lasting around an hour to an hour and a half.
Training sessions take place in your own home and in local environment.
When contacting us for obedience training sessions please have your diary, calendar or work/shift rota available as we will arrange all 3-4 sessions at the time of booking.
